Give list: Afghanistan earthquake appeal
A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on 31 August 2025 at 11:47pm local time, with its epicentre near Jalalabad in Nangarhar province. Early reports indicate at least 1,400 have been killed, with thousands more injured, including children. These figures are expected to rise as rescue efforts continue. There has been widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure, with many villages flattened and access hampered by landslides and poor communications are adding further challenges to the situation.
This emergency comes while Afghanistan’s children are already enduring multiple crises. Before the earthquake, at least 12.6 million children were in urgent need of humanitarian assistance as families faced extreme poverty, ongoing conflict, climate shocks, severe economic decline, and disease outbreaks.
Priority needs include emergency shelter, non-food items, water, food assistance and trauma support for people in urgent need.
While the entities listed below are all known to APS, we do not conduct a detailed analysis of their financial position and governance ahead of their inclusion in this list. Each charity’s audited financials are available to view on the ACNC website.
Please note, this is not an exhaustive list of the not-for-profit organisations working in this space. As with all emergency appeals, should a donation be received and not be needed in the earthquake affected areas, the charity will apply it to similar situations and areas of need.
